Detainees at Delaney Hall, a privately-run ICE detention facility in Newark, launched a hunger and labor strike alleging inhumane conditions — spoiled food, denied medical care, scalding showers. Outside, federal officers in tactical gear used pepper spray and batons on protesters. Newark's mayor imposed a nightly curfew. New Jersey's governor was denied entry for a state health inspection. Congressional members who toured the facility described dire conditions. DHS disputes the allegations.

The Supreme Court Just Finished Dismantling the Voting Rights Act. States Are Already Redrawing Maps.

In Louisiana v. Callais, the Supreme Court's 6-3 conservative majority overturned the framework for challenging racially discriminatory congressional districts. Justice Kagan read her dissent from the bench, calling it the completion of the Court's demolition of the Voting Rights Act. Within one hour of the ruling, Florida approved a new gerrymandered map that could net Republicans four additional House seats. Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, and South Carolina are expected to follow.
